Forget the terrible twos, it is the TERRIFYING threes!

In 26 days little man will turn three.
I would like to skip a whole year ahead now.

People say - ohh it's the terrible twos.  Why yes it is.  It is even more terrible when your son is so tall he looks like a four year old and people expect him to be well behaved.

When he is stomping his foot and telling me no (in a not so quiet voice).  I look at the woman shaking her head at me and say - "he is two."  Automatically this know-everythng-about-motherhood- woman changes her whole expression and smiles while saying, "this too shall pass."

She's right.  It does pass.  As slow as molasses pours from a jar.

Only it doesn't pass on to better things, it actually gets worse.

It turns into the terrifying threes.  I figured out why they call them terrifying when the twins were three.  The think they are invincible and have found their voice.  It makes for some dangerous situations and loud tantrums.  There are many moments I have blocked from memory, just because the trauma was too much for my brain.

Anyone who thinks the art of conversation is dead ought to tell a child to go to bed. ~Robert Gallagher

  1. My Daughter will turn 3 in two months, and while 3yrs was a GREAT age for my Son, I have the feeling it'll be pure torture with Daughter (who is also tall for her age, giving people the impression that she's a hooligan).

  4. Mini turned 3 coming up for a month ago. She has turned even gobbier than at two. And has learnt what no means. The terrible twos thing is a lie, apparently they are evil until at least 18, and even then some of them never grow out of it!

  8. OMG, Stefenie, the terrible 7's!! LMBO!

Yeah, my 3 year old was a 2 year old saint, and the exploded with the terrifying 3's. Holy Moly, I was not expecting that from him. Aahhh, and he is almost 4 :D so close to the end of this...I hope, lol.

My 8 year old, going on 9 has an attitude of a 12 year old. I am not really sure what to do with this new phase...

  9. Amen! My youngest -- he's now 4 and trust me, it doesn't get better -- was the most perfect creature ever born... until 18 months. Then the body snatchers replaced him with some steel-skulled devil child who makes the phrase "strong willed" laughable. He does things that just make me want to die.

I just found your blog and you have no "pink" in your household (same here), therefore, you must be added to the blogroll.

  10. I figured this out on my first child and was quite offended that nobody had warned me. So now I tell people that the terrible twos last until the child is 4. It is a loooooong 2 years! Jen.
