why I can't sleep or why they can't sleep

If I'm able to lay down before my dearest hubby, I'm able to sleep no problem.  I sleep soundly until the alarm goes off and then I decide if I'm going to keep sleeping or actually get up.  If hubby goes to sleep before me, I might as well sleep on the couch.  The freight train soundtrack is just not something I can sleep by - although if already asleep it doesn't bother me.

My children however have every reason in the book as to why they can't sleep.  Tyler came up to me last night 10 minutes after laying down and said he couldn't breathe right.  He was breathing fine - just making as much noise as possible while doing so.  I told him to try breathing with his mouth shut - he tried it - and then said "oh, that's much better!"

Once asleep my children have always slept soundly. (for the most part).  Yes I am one of those few lucky Moms whose children slept through the night by 3 months old.  The sleeping part isn't the problem.  It's the getting there.  See the twins have always shared a room. While being separated at night is something that absolutely terrifies them, being together can makes bedtime difficult.   So here are the TOP 10 reasons to get out of bed - per Nathaniel and Tyler.

  1. I have to go to the bathroom.
  2. I need a cup of water.
  3. I like your bed better.
  4. The light won't work.
  5. It's not dark yet. (in the summer)
  6. It's too dark. (in the winter)
  7. He called me a selfish hairball!
  8. He won't stop making me laugh.
  9. He has a toy.
  10. He spit on me!

Why won't your kids go to sleep?

  1. Oh my Lord, I totally know what you mean!! My kids stall horribly when it comes to bedtime, thinking of every excuse in the book! I actually did a post on it awhile back...I have to give them credit though, the excuses were pretty darn good. Like the hairball excuse your kids gave you, I mean where do they come up with this stuff???

  2. Oh, do I hear you on this one!!! My kids looooooooove to stall at bedtime. I live in fear of the day we move the boys out of their cribs into big boy beds. They can stay in cribs until they're at least 18, right???

  3. This is exactly why I don't want my boys to share a room :)

Thank you, I'll be showing my husband this list.

  6. Well let's see here..the girls listen to the threats of what could possibly happen if they don't stay in their beds and go to sleep. My son on the other hand...NOTHING scares that boy and he will try ANYTHING.

  7. My twins share a room too. I have lived this post! They love to freak each other out about "owls outside the window," "nightmares in the closet," and "ghosts in the hall."

When one wakes to creep into my room when sick or scared, he always wakes the other for company! They've never slept a night apart. I wonder if they ever will....

  8. My son will get up to go to the bathroom...which really means that he's trying to see what we're doing. Once he's out, though, he's out!

By the way, those excuses are hilarious and so very "boy".

  9. Funny how kids can come up with so many last minute needs before bed.

My husband's snoring doesn't keep me awake but some night he starts bouncing. I feel like I'm on a trampoline or a boat. He'll be restless and turn over and over and bounce, bounce, bounce!

  10. gah i am glad i am not the only one!!! My boys have shared a bedroom since #2 was born and since #2 was old enough to play and talk, bedtime has been a nightmare. I split them up last weekend! I couldn't take it anymore. we're talking like 2 hours for them to go to sleep. I finally cleaned all my crap out of the 3rd bedroom and put #1 in it. They sleep 10x better than when together. They are both asleep within 20 of going to bed! i love it!!!
