The 80's are back to haunt us! PART 2

Thank goodness Thanksgiving is over - now to get ready for Christmas.  Don't wanna blog about Thanksgiving or Christmas yet.  So here goes.

This post is dedicated to: Mrs. Fish (now you owe me), and Anti-Supermom (because you had the guts first), and all the other ladies who agree the 80's should stay in the 80s!

I had Oprah on in the background the a few weeks ago while I was reading (quiet doesn't sit well for me unless I'm trying to sleep - something to do with having too many boys in our house).  Anyway.  I was reading when all the sudden I heard profanity on the screen.  This high fashion dude says "the 80's are back"

I wanted to run screaming from the room!  But instead I stopped reading and turned up the volume to listen to this man talk about how to wear the "latest" 80s fashions. People - don't you get it???  The 80's are over for a reason.  (To see a bulleted list go here)  Those of us who lived through it the first time do NOT want to go back - ever.

Apparently you still don't believe me.  Well the hot-shot fashion dude said ruffles are back.  I remember ruffles, they went something like this.

Not so fabulous right?

He also said over the knee boots are back.  He said you can wear them over your skinny jeans.  Skinny jeans, I will not be caught dead in skinny jeans.  I know leg warmers are back, along with jean skirts and tights.  I've heard hammer pants are back.  But I'm waiting, I'm waiting to see the bangs.  When we see the bangs come back, we'll know we've lost all hope.

Please people, take this as a sign of warning, you don't want to be remembered like this!

  1. That's a cute pic of you!
    ;-)

I fear the bangs and Hammer pants the most. ANd I refuse to wear leg warmers. I do own skinny jeans, but I cna only shimmy into them once every 6 months or so. And I always wear them with a long top that covers my arse.

  2. I'm tempted to put up the picture of me in a ruffled skirt with suspenders.

    You look fabulous ;)

I didn't do hammer pants the first time around, maybe this time... (totally joking)

  3. I'm with Anti-Supermom. I had a great hairstyle to go along with my ruffled skirt and suspenders outfit. I only "get" SOME of these 80s trends that are done up a bit more "right" this time around....but none that you listed do I consider "done right". Please, bangs, stay away.

I'm over from SITS. Hope you've had a good Friday.

  5. Funny, I also read with the tv on in the background! My mom used to get mad at me and I'd say it was the only way I could concentrate on reading!

The 80's weren't too bad for me, though I'd never want to go back to the feathered hair look!

  10. This was GREAT! I work with a girl who is a down-right fashionista, and she has some of those over-the-knee boots. I just don't know... not for me!

Does this mean I can bring my five-tiered, studded jean skirt back out of storage? It wouldn't fit me anymore, but maybe my daughter (in a few years; but by then, it'll be the 90s that are back!).

  11. My eldest daughter wears knee boots with jeans all the time. They aren't skinny jeans, but she just rolls them up and sticks them in! EEK!

    Happy SITS day!

  14. I'm not a huge fan of the hammer-esque pants that are somewhat coming back in style. Not cool.

    Happy SITS Day! :)

  16. Yeah, I try not to follow trends so I tend to do throw back outfits to the 50's an pin-up. My bangs are a fashion trend now! (And luckily they aren't the teased high with lots of Aqua Net bangs)

  17. lol. my girls are following all of the "new " trends. Well, except hammer pants, they haven't bought any of those yet, TG! I used to call them harem pants. And i had a slew of them. Walking by Claire's the other day I almost fell ove, when I saw a poster for their Alice IW collection- the model was wearing a huge, black , lace, you know where I'm going with this right?.... HAIR BOW. HUGE. To the SIDE OF HER HEAD... like Madonna (and I) did!!!!

  18. Ohhh, the bangs. TOTALLY. Can't do the bangs. And the Hammer pants - I definitely draw the line there, too.

If my ruffled denim skirt still fit, though, you can bet I'd be rocking that. ;)

  19. OMG! This is too funny. I mentioned it on my blog a couple of months ago. I just added a photo of myself with big hair and shoulder pads and lots of makeup. I think I even had eye shadow on. aaahhggh! I do like big hair though. Come and see the photo of me with Harry Bellafonte (it's at the bottom of the post). Here's link - hope I don't go to your spam folder

  21. I liked some of the fashions - I want shoulder pads back!

  22. Shoulder pads...Everyone was a linebacker in the 80's. I'm with Aunt Becky, I fear the stirrup pants. I know fashion comes and goes but seriously, do we really need to make Aquanet rich again?
